"A discerning person should have some special moments.
A moment of communion (Connecting) with ALLAH.
A moment of Self-examination.
A moment of Reflection over the mysteries of creation, and
A moment for eating and drinking".
- Nabi Muhammad(SalaLLAHU Alayhi Wa Sallam)
Upon close analysis, one would find that the blessed
month of Ramadhan, if spent correctly, encompasses all these moments. It is ALLAH’S
mercy upon us that the Holy month of Ramadhan, together with its spiritual effulgence and
practices, is structured in a way that facilitates with ease, our CONNECTING with our
Creator and Sole Benefactor, ALLAH.
The best way of attaining "communion" with ALLAH is through Salaah, and reading of His
Holy Book, the Holy Qur’an. The speciality of the Holy Qur’an is that it was revealed in the
blessed month of Ramadhan. The illustrious Companions (RadhiyALLAHU Anhum) of
RasuluLLAH(SalaLLAHU Alayhi wa Sallam) used to exert themselves extensively in
dedicating their time to the Holy Qur’an, especially during the month of Ramadhan.
It is narrated that Hadhrat Ali(RadhiyALLAHU Anhu) used to say;
"When I want to speak to ALLAH, I perform Salaah, and when I want ALLAH to speak to me,
I read the (Holy) Qur’an".
The hunger of Fasting during the day, together with our standing in prayer at night are akin
to a slave who has certain needs , and then ultimately turns to his master for the fulfilment
of these needs.
ALLAH is our Lord and Master.
It goes without saying, that often, one who is in dire need will experience moments of
SELF-EXAMINATION, pondering over his pitiable state, and how he got there in the first
place.
Rather than physical needs, more dire for Muslims, would be our Spiritual state, if our life
choices have created some distance between ourselves and ALLAH.
The blessed month of Ramadhan presents ample opportunities for us to initiate and maintain
corrective action in this regard.
Fasting by its very nature slows us down physically, sometimes resulting in us becoming
more REFLECTIVE, mentally.
More than reflect on how much time is left for fasting, or pondering over what we will have
for Iftaar(breaking fast), we should reflect on how ALLAH has selected us to be the
recipients of His countless favours. We should reflect on the multitude of complex
procedures and processes that have brought ALLAH’S bounties conveniently ready at our
disposal. Things which we take for granted are often considered to be luxuries to many
around the world. When it comes to everything which ALLAH has Creeated, each with a
specific purpose, we should certainly REFLECTand be grateful.
Moments which we reserve for EATING and DRINKING, (and tending to our needs in
GENERAL), could all become moments of worship, if we utilise the strength gained for the
worship and obedience of ALLAH.
With the correct intention, even our sleep and resting would become moments of worship
and obedience. At the very least, during these moments, we are not engaged in sin
and transgression.
Most Muslims always look forward to the coming of Ramadhan with joyful anticipation, and
lament at the speed of its passing.
It is hardly befitting to describe whole month of Ramadhan as mere moment, but when we
reflect on the duration of our stay in this world, relative to the Aakhirah, a lifetime of
Ramadhaans could be a lifetime of beautiful moments.
Concerning the duration of our time spent in this world, ALLAH states in the Holy Qur’an ;
He will say ; "What number of years did you stay on Earth?"
They will say ; "We stayed a day, or part of a day".
{Holy Qur’an / Surah Mu'min (23 : 112-113)
Remember O' Muslim! Live each day as if it were your last day,
or the first day of the rest of your life.
"Live your life like Ramadhan, and you will have a death like Eid.
INSHA-ALLAH.
